PTNS PERCUTANEOUS Tibial Nerve Stimulation

Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS) is an office-based treatment for overactive bladder symptoms, including urinary urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. PTNS uses gentle electrical stimulation near the ankle to influence the nerves involved in bladder control. 

How Does PTNS Work?

During treatment, a small needle electrode is placed near the ankle and connected to a stimulator. Mild electrical impulses travel along the tibial nerve and help regulate the nerve signals involved in bladder function. A typical treatment session lasts about 30 minutes. 

Is PTNS Right for Me?

PTNS may be an option for patients experiencing symptoms of overactive bladder. Your provider will review your symptoms, medical history, and previous treatments to determine whether PTNS may be appropriate for you.
